Poster requirements are not one-size-fits-all

Federal posting obligations vary by law and employer coverage. State and local requirements may add minimum-wage, leave, safety, workers' compensation, unemployment, discrimination, scheduling, or industry-specific notices.

Build a location-based inventory

  1. List every physical worksite and jurisdiction.
  2. Identify federal posters using the Department of Labor Poster Advisor.
  3. Check each state labor agency and applicable local government.
  4. Document language, size, placement, and remote-worker distribution rules.
  5. Assign an owner to monitor revisions and replace outdated notices.

Remote and hybrid workers

Electronic access may supplement required physical posting but does not automatically replace it. Review the governing law, agency guidance, and whether employees regularly report to a physical location.

Avoid unnecessary purchases: Federal DOL posters are available free of charge. Commercial combination posters are acceptable only when every required notice is current, complete, readable, and displayed at the required size.
